About East Coast Hiker
East Coast Hiker is a trail directory for hikers exploring the eastern United States — from the Adirondacks of New York to the Appalachian highlands of West Virginia, North Carolina, and beyond.
Our goal is simple: give you the information you need to plan a great hike without wading through ads, paywalls, or outdated forum posts. Every trail in our directory includes distance, elevation gain, estimated hike time, difficulty rating, and a best-season guide so you can pick the right trail for your fitness level and the time of year.
What We Cover
We focus on the East Coast — a region that punches above its weight in scenic hiking. Fire towers with 360-degree summit views. Gorges and waterfalls hidden inside state parks. High peaks above treeline in the Adirondacks and the Whites. River gaps, ridge walks, and marshland nature trails. Whether you are a weekend warrior or a seasoned thru-hiker, there is something here for you.
Current coverage spans New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Vermont, New Hampshire, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, North Carolina, and Georgia.
How Trail Info Is Sourced
Trail information is compiled from a combination of published trip reports, official park and forest service publications, and first-hand hiking accounts. Stats like distance and elevation gain are cross-referenced against USGS topographic data where available. Hike times are estimates for average hikers at a moderate pace — your experience may vary.
Trail conditions change. We always recommend checking with the official managing agency before you head out — especially in winter or after heavy rain. Links to official park and forest service pages are included on each trail page where available.
